Rainwater Harvesting

We, who live in cities and towns and eat food grown on industrial farms, depend on imported water for survival.  Our water and the water that grows our food travels hundreds of miles to reach us.  These distribution systems are powered by coal, hydro-electric, or nuclear power. The infrastructures cost billions in public tax dollars and household utility bills.

Harvesting rainwater at your home or business can reduce our demand for water transport systems that threaten the health of the water cycle and our local environments.

Rainwater harvesting is one strategy in the greater scheme of reducing domestic water use.  By harvesting rainwater, we can utilize water falling onto our homes and landscapes for beneficial purposes, while preventing it from becoming stormwater pollution as it runs off and enters the storm drain system.
Every rainwater collection system is a custom design. This diagram is a representative system. It involves capturing rain from the roof and storing it in a tank for use later (landscape irrigation and toilet flushes).

What are the Benefits of a Water Audit?

Conducting a water audit can help you save money by reducing your home or business water bill (and sewer bill if you are connected to a public sewer system). Conducting a water audit will make you aware of how you use your water and help to identify ways you can minimize water use by implementing certain conservation measures. It is possible to cut your water usage by as much as 30 percent by implementing simple conservation measures and without drastically modifying your lifestyle.  Installing modern water collection/reuse systems (such as rainwater harvesting systems and grey-water systems,) and installing water-efficient appliances and fixtures can significantly increase those savings.
